Yes, Harry Reems, legendary porn star of the classic, iconic, Deep Throat, just passed away of pancreatic cancer at 65. I'm absolutely amazed that I'm the 1st announcing this here; I assumed I might be responding to someone else's thread. Ironically, a short while ago, after discovering this, I was approached by someone on another site who claimed to be awesome at deepthroating.:coolblue:

It is always sad to see someone who was a public part of the sexual revolution pass away. Sometimes I wonder if the only true libertarians are the sexual libertarians. Sad to see him go.

I thought his work in The Grafenberg Spot was much better than in Deep Throat. Everyone in that epic made me so glad to be bi.
He was and still is one of my favourite porn actors. Bless him!

Rest in peace Herbert/Harry. He had pancreatic cancer from decades of alcoholism and drug abuse and I read an online article that said he was in a lot of pain from neuropathy and was not even conscious the last 5 days of his life. At least he got sober and became a very spiritual person and he was apparently into Christianity too. Harry Reems was just a guy who did porn and nothing more. Many people who did porn back then including Reems thought that they would be "famous" if they did porn but in fact back then as well as today if you do porn or have been in porn you are not going to be taken seriously as an "actor" or "actress" at all despite how the casting couch has always been a part of Hollywood. Porn back then was made by the mob and a lot of porn today still is and Deep Throat is rather tame and not erotic at all compared to today's porn. Were you even around during the sexual revolution? I was and it was not one huge orgy and other ways it is portrayed to people who were not around then. In retrospect the so called "sexual revolution" was not that revolutionary and people have been having sex all types of it, and pornography, abortion, etc. have always existed. Only a fool would think that the only true libertarians are people who were involved in the sexual revolution.

Almost like legendary John Holmes, a preacher's son who died of AIDS. Also a very tormented human being.

Very ambivalent about ' death-bed conversions;' not sure I buy that. Akin to Steve Jobs' dying words, "Oh wow......"

Yes, I was " around " during the sexual revolution; I was a "hippie " during the 70's.

I know about porn being controlled by the mob back then; I traveled the country, coast to coast. Stopped in Portland,Oregon one night & went to a massage parlor. My lady of choice had a tat on her butt which said "....owned by... :yikes2: "

Rest in peace. It seems to us that most people who do porn even people who were in porns in the 70s, do not like themselves at all.

There was a great movie about life in the Porn Industry in the "golden age" - Boogie Nights. Incredible cast -- Mark Wahlberg in the John Holmes-inspired role, Burt Reynolds, Julianne Moore, William Macey, John C. Riley, Phillip Seymour Hoffman, Don Cheadle... all playing flawed, but incredibly human, sympathetic characters. Can't recommend it enough.

To quote the recently, sadly departed Roger Ebert: "Few films have been more matter-of-fact, even disenchanted, about sexuality. Adult films are a business here, not a dalliance or a pastime, and one of the charms of Boogie Nights is the way it shows the everyday backstage humdrum life of porno filmmaking ... The sweep and variety of the characters have brought the movie comparisons to Robert Altman (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Altman)'s Nashville (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nashville_%28film%29) and The Player (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Player_%28film%29). ... Through all the characters and all the action, Anderson's screenplay centers on the human qualities of the players ... Boogie Nights has the quality of many great films, in that it always seems alive."

Rest in peace. It seems to us that most people who do porn even people who were in porns in the 70s, do not like themselves at all. Yes it is true. I have never done porn but I have met people who did here in Los Angeles and despite what people think about porn you do not make a lot of money doing it, and it is a pretty toxic industry. But the same can be said for acting and the people who try to become "famous" here in Los Angeles. The porn industry as well as the regular legit film industry have always been full of drugs and sex for pay including people who are kept and the casting couch but that's gone on for decades, and it's not who you know it's who you blow.
