I was at a wedding yesterday and two guys, who have been in a legal civil union as per English law for a couple of years are in NY on holiday in September. They are looking into marrying again in NY for the satisfaction of being recognised as legally married as opposed to being in a civil union. Would NY law preclude this as they are English and already in a legally recognised civil union in another country?
I am in a legal civil union in accord with Scots law and so consider myself already married, but it is always nice to know our options.:)

Thats really great, I grew up in New York, so I'm glad that my home state is a leader in equal rights
