View Full Version : An IT time question about the site postings?

Ever since the clocks changed to Eastern Standard Time from Eastern Daylight time, posts on this site have not been recording the correct time for other people's posts. To make it stranger it is not an hour difference but something like 27 minutes off/ahead from EST in my province. It seems that it indicates a future time (ie EDT) when I read the posts? When I post though, it seems to give the same time as where I live?

Are there any other EST Canucks or EST US people experiencing the same thing? Does anyone know if I accidentally changed something in my account to make this record this way? It wasn't like this before the clock changed.

I think that drew lives in Saskatchewan? and I don't think that they change their time to Central Daylight Time but how could this affect the time markers this year and not before?

Oh, I just checked and at 2 am March 13 is when the clocks are to "spring forward" to EDT...ie tonight. Most of Saskatchewan will not change the time from Central Standard Time. Maybe, it will fix itself tonight?... Since, some of us are changing time earlier than we use to...maybe not???? So confusing...lol Hmm maybe it is because I sometimes read posts when I'm not logged in?

It seems to be OK now. I posted on another topic a few minutes ago and the time stamp appears to be correct.

tenni...

my time is correct, but just to be certain, go to "my account" then "edit options". Scroll down to the "Date and time Options" and make sure you have selected (GMT -5:00 Eastern Time (US and Canada), Bogota, Lima.

Immediately below that be sure you have chosen "Automatically detect DST settings" from the dropdown list.

If you need to change the above settings, be sure to scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on Save Changes.

btw, times displayed have nothing to do with you reading posts when you aren't logged in :)

Noticed on the 10 Mar 2011 that someone had joined on 12 Mar 2011

Prophetic or a cock-up on system time?

I just do not notice or care about time with that degree of precision unless there is some kind of deadline to meet. I am happy if I know which day of the week it is. Yes, often I do not know if it is Wednesday or Thursday. Sometimes, especially during the winter, I work 7 days a week and it does not matter which day it is. But, I do feel really bad when I do not immediately know what month of the year it is + or - 2.
